The following recommendations by Dr. Ivan Rothman are for the use of digital camera users. Dr. Rothman is an experienced and accomplished nature photographer who has travelled worldwide.

Editing software for digital images

Breezebrowser www.breezesys.com/breezebrowser/

Capture One LE No need to get the expensive pro version. Also

does raw conversions www.phaseone.com

Delkin Cardbus 32 Adaptor - this is an adaptor for a laptop PCMCIA

slot that will download flashcards at 5x the speed of other flashcard readers. Artie Morris is selling them at his website www.birdsasart.com

Cleaning brush for sensors on digital cameras - www.visibledust.com

See Joe McDonald's review of this product - www.hoothollow.com

Photo Back Pack from Moose Peterson. MP-1 or smaller MP-3

which also accepts a clip on laptop case. Not as well padded as usual

photo backpacks, but light weight, hold a tremendous amount of gear

in a configuration that is ready for field use and they fit in the overhead

compartments of even the smallest commuter planes.

CD holders

C-shells (clamshell cases - very compact and sturdy)

Lowepro also makes nice CD holders, different sizes, holding 10 or

more CDs

Ralph Paonessa - he's was the leader of our trip, and I would

enthusiastically recommend him for any of his trips. He ran a great trip,

knowledgeable, energetic, helpful and just a really really nice guy. The

group was small (4 including Ralph). www.rpphoto.com

Some comments and recommendations from the

Ivan Rothman lecture on January 25, 2006

Chas Glatzer    www.shootthelight.com    A great photo leader.  He really takes people to some interesting places that nobody else goes to.

It's not on his web site, but you can email him and ask about buying the tripod shoulder pad and the tripod joint protectors.  Or it may be easier to order directly from the web site of the guy, Robert Peltz,  who makes these things for him: www.michigannature.com   On that site the items are called "Pod-Pad"   and "Mini Leg Protectors"  Robert also makes a really nice portable photography blind

www.thinktankphoto.com     "Airport Security" carry on roller bag  - download the PDF file to really see all it's features

Modulus Speed Set or Pro Modulus Speed Set -  padded waistbelt with various lens and camera bags that can be attached.

I forgot to mention it last night, but one of the attachments called the Lens Drop In is a small bag with soft inner protective lining and draw string closure.  It can be used to hold a teleconverter  without end caps on it!  This allows quickly putting a teleconverter on or off a big lens - no need to find and screw on end caps each time.  Just drop the TC without caps into the bag and pull the cord tight.

New Wimberley tripod head:   www.tripodhead.com

"Molar" bean bag:   Joe McDonald sells it on his site    www.hoothollow.com    or you can get a fancier and more expensive version called the BLUBB (big lens ultimate bean bag) from Artie Morris at www.birdsasart.com

I didn't mention it last night, but the absolute best place to buy camera equipment is Allen's Camera in Levittown, PA.  Cheaper that B&H, absolutely honest, friendly and knowledgeable, low shipping costs and usually arrives in NY the next day, NO TAX !  on orders sent to NY.  No web site.  Call at 215 547-2841, make sure to ask for Allen and just mention my name (I really don't get a commission, but if Allen knows that I sent you he will know you are a serious player and treat you well).

The projector that I was using was a Canon Realist SX-50.  2500 ANSI.  1400 x 1050 resolution.  Costs about $4000.  Allen sells them.
