PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
11/8/11
Hi All,Ron will be putting the second half schedule on the website within the next day or so. Some of the programs may require some explanation , so here it is. If there are any questions , please feel free to e-mail me.Joe S.1-9-12 Member's Critique. We will do the same thing we did in the beginning of the year. You can show some images you are thinking of using in competition and the members present can give you feedback on how to improve them for a better score.2-6-12 Steve Zimic will show how to make some simple selections in Photoshop and will also give us a beginners look at Topaz.2-22-12 Lou & Terry Buonomo will share with us their African Safari adventure from last summer. This program will cover travel, accommodations and shooting conditions. It contains video as well as a spectacular slide show. Not to be missed.3-5-12 " What was the Judge Thinking" Members will bring in a few images that they had hoped would score better then they did. The group will discuss why the image did'nt do well.3-28-12 Copy the Masters. Two years ago Lorraine did this and it was allot of fun. So pick a favorite artist and try to duplicate the style. Bring in your images and share them with the group. Try to bring in the original style for comparison as well as your image. Your artist can be either a painter or photographer.4-2-12 This will be a live model , portrait lighting workshop. Bring your cameras as members will shoot. We hope to have 2 models so we can set up 2 stations for shooting. If you have any props : ie hats , scarves , etc , bring them as well. Please read your camera manuals andfamiliarize your self with the operations as this is not a "How do I set my Camera" workshop. There will be no nude shooting(by you or the models). And when posing the models please remember , NO TOUCHING!!!!!4-25-12 Self Portrait. Between now and the 25th members should shoot some self portraits of themselves to share with the group. Try to capture your own individual personalities.

Greetings to All, I hope you are enjoying your summer. A few items FYI. 1. Dues this year will remain the same,($40.00) and can be sent to Steve Zimic at any time. Please remember that you will not be allowed to enter any club competitions until you are paid up. 2. The theme for this year's Theme Competition, in May , will be "People in Motion". There are a few guidelines to be followed: The main subject MUST be a person or persons in motion. The motion must be generated by the person or persons in the image , ie: a person on a bicycle, a person in a canoe, a person running, a person on skates, etc. A person riding a horse, a person riding a motorcycle or a race car would not qualify. These are just a few examples , but I think you get the idea. The judge for that competition will be given instruction to give any image an 18 point score , if the image does not comply to the theme. 3. In the past , our first meeting has always been a "Showcase" type meeting. This year we have been unable to book a good presenter for September , so our first meeting will be a "Pre-Competiton Critique Night". Anyone who cares to participate can send Ken a maximum of 5 images they are planning to use in up-coming competitions. If they are to be prints , just send them as digital files sized at 750 on the longest side. What we will do is critique the images so that you will have the opportunity to "tweek" them before an up-coming competition. Please tag each image with your name and number them 1-5 in the order you wish to have them shown. we will get to as many images as possible. Ken will need them e-mailed to him no later then Monday , Sept. 5th, 2011. 4. Some of the other things we will be doing are as follows: In Oct. we will do a "What I Did This Summer" night. This will be a night to share your summer activities, vacations, home projects , etc with the club. You can do this in the form of a slide show, slide talk or by showing prints. Its a chance to share some images which may not be competition worthy , but interesting anyway. And in December we will be holding a club auction. Put a price on things you no longer want and we will auction them off to others who may be interested. The club will get 10%of the proceeds , to be paid by the seller. We have done this in the past , and it has always been a fun night. 5. Attached to this e-mail and posted on the website are the step by step instructions for preparing an image for Digital Competition. Sad to say , but after 6 years people are still getting it wrong. Please print these out and use it as a check list. I will also do a demo , using these instructions, at the first meeting. ContestRules/ImagePreparation.pdf 6. The first half schedule will be posted on the website shortly , so please make note of it. Thanks and have a great summer. As always, any questions please feel free to contact me. Joe Senzatimore
